MOVEMENT LESSON- by Michelle Turner

At Movement Horizons we work very hard to acquire the skills to help our patients thrive. We have studied a variety of methods in order to build up the toolkit that we can use to tailor a therapeutic program for each child we treat.

The Masgutova Method (MNRI)Neurosensorimotor Reflex integration

The Masgutova Method (MNRI®) is a comprehensive set of programs that focus on the restoration and maturation of primary motor reflexes and primary movements.  It facilitates proper coordination between the sensory and motor systems.  It supports the optimal performance of protective, automatic brain and body responses.

MNRI is based on the stimulation of motor reflex patterns in order to awaken natural, genetic motor resources, motor memory and sensory-motor coherence.  Reflex pattern integration exercises are designed to create order in reflex circuits so that specific sensory stimulation yields a specific and appropriate motor response.  Proper integration of motor reflex patterns is essential and provides a stable foundation for the development and maturation of higher motor and cognitive functions. The Anat Baniel Method (ABM)

The Anat Baniel Method® is an innovative approach to working with children with special needs that helps their brains upgrade its capacity for learning new movement, regulate their emotions and improve cognition. ABM uses innovative, transformational movement exercises to access the brain's amazing ability to change itself. With this method, instead of asking a child to directly perform what is known to be difficult or impossible, the therapist perceives and finds the components and incremental steps that are necessary to build the new skill. In essence, a series of small and gentle movements are used to help the brain learn more complex skills one piece at a time.  [Read more here or visit the ABM website

Movement Lesson™ is a unique therapy method that utilizes a combination of gentle touch and purposeful movement through the principles of counterbalance and rotation to create an individualized and profoundly effective therapy session. This extraordinary  method helps infants, children, adults and elderly with acute to chronic pain with Michelle Turner's Movement Lesson™, non-invasive approach to the skeletal, muscular and nervous systems.

Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT)

The NDT Approach is used for management and treatment of individuals with central nervous system (CNS) pathophysiology. The individual's strengths and impairments are identified and addressed in relation to functional abilities and limitations. The NDT Approach continues to evolve with the emergence of new theories, models, research, and information in the movement sciences. NDT is a hands-on, problem solving approach. Intervention involves direct handling and guidance to optimize function. The approach is guided by the client's reactions throughout every treatment session.

An NDT Trained or NDT Certified™ therapist's education in neurology, physiology, and current research is translated into daily practice. They work collaboratively with patients, families, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized comprehensive treatment programs based on NDT theory and philosophy.
